Alpine Real Estate
Nestled in the foothills east of the city of San Diego, rests the town
of
Alpine. Area residents enjoy life on ranches and homes that lie among
the
rolling hills and chaparral.
The area was discovered by the Kumeyaay Indians nearly 1,000 years ago
and
continues to be their home.
The area near Alpine was a designated Stage Coach stop which served the
gold
mines that were located in the nearby Cuyamaca mountains. The stages
brought supplies to the miners and was a way for the miners to get
their
gold discoveries to San Diego. Alpine had an abundant supply of fresh
water, which made for a pleasant rest stop.
A gentleman named Benjamin R. Arnold arrived in the area in 1887. He
was in
search of a place that would help cure his asthma symptoms. Arnold
found
that the local climate helped him. He built a hotel that catered to
people
that also suffered from asthma that wished to improve their health.
The town's slogan of "Best Climate in the U.S.A.." originated when a
U.S.
Government survey declared the area as having the most equable climate
in
the country.
A major Alpine attraction is the Viejas Casino and Factory Outlet
Center,
which is located just outside of town near the I-8. The extremely
successful complex is owned and operated by the Viejas Band of the
Kumeyaay
Indians. Headliner entertainment is featured. The outlet center offers
a
large array of stores set among unique landscaping and southwest-style
architecture.
Alpine is home to nearly 14,000 residents. They enjoy the small town
feel
of the area.
Many of the estate sized lots are zoned for equestrian use.
