Carlsbad Real Estate - 92008, 92009, 90210 and 90211
The natural spring water in Carlsbad is similar to that of the spring
water
found in Karlsbad, Germany. That similarity inspired early
homesteaders in
1886 to name their new town Carlsbad. The city is located in the
northern
coastal area of
San Diego County, north of
Encinitas and just south of
Oceanside.
The Luiseno Indians liked to camp along the lagoon that is near what is
now
the town. The Spaniards traveling along what would become the El
Camino
Real named the lagoon Agua Hedionda which in Spanish means "stinking
water."
Legend has it that they unknowingly were camping upwind from a fishing
camp!
Ten miles north of the lagoon, the Mission San Luis Rey was founded
when the
missions were secularized in the year 1833. The land that eventually
became
the town of Carlsbad was originally claimed by a gentleman named Juan
Maria
Romouldo Marron. Marron resided in San Diego. He ran cattle on his
Rancho
Agua Hedionda. The Rancho passed to American hands following his
death.
Two Americans with a German background arrived in 1888 to build their
town
of small and gracious homes.
In 1914, the town's population was around 300 residents. At that point
in
time, water rights from Oceanside were secured by the South Coast Land
Company. The town's agriculture grew to include bulbs, avocados, fruit
orchards and flowers. To this day Carlsbad is famous for its flower
fields.
The colorful fields are an annual spring attraction for tourists and
locals
alike.
The town's proximity to Camp Pendleton brought in many new residents
during
World War II. Many of those who served in the war returned to make
Carlsbad
their home. The city was incorporated in 1952.
The Carlsbad of today is home to nearly 135,000 residents along with a
growing assortment of light industries. LEGOLAND, one of San Diego
county's
major tourist attractions calls Carlsbad home. Carlsbad is also home
to a
major golf club and apparel company. Westfield Shopping Town Plaza
Camino
Real is locted on the northern border of the city and offers a wide
variety
of retailers including Macy's and JCPenney.
