Lakeside Real Estate
Lakeside is located in the eastern part of San Diego County just east
of
El
Cajon.
The area was first promoted as a town in 1886 when the El Cajon Valley
Land
Co. purchased land and constructed the Lakeside Inn. The same
architect
that designed the famed Hotel Del Coronado also designed the Lakeside
Inn.
Lakeside is situated about 30-minutes from downtown San Diego. Eight
trains
per day used to transport families for a day of auto and horse racing,
boating and picnicking. At one point in time the rail line that served
Lakeside was the busiest in the county.
Although the Lakeside Inn is gone, Lindo Lake continues to be a
favorite
spot for visitors and residents alike to horseback ride, go fishing,
feed
the ducks, hike or have a picnic. Lindo Lake is the only natural fresh
water lake in the entire county. It was originally fed by mountain
streams.
Lakeside offers three additional lakes and a total of 8 parks.
The Silverwood Wildlife Sanctuary is the San Diego Audubon Society's
700-acre preserve. It is a Lakeside area jewel and offers excellent
bird
watching opportunities.
The area plays host to its annual western Days and Rodeo which attracts
top
riders from around the region.
The area offers residents a small town atmosphere along with rural
living.
Growth plans are focused on the development of single family housing
choices.
