Lemon Grove Real Estate
The centerpiece of the city of Lemon Grove is a giant lemon which sits
near
the San Diego Trolley tracks downtown. The giant fiberglass lemon made
its
debut as part of the 1928 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena. It
stands
as a reminder of the community's roots.
Lemon Grove was originally a part of the 4,000 acres that were
purchased by
Mr. Robert Allison in the year 1868. The first plot map was laid out
by
Allison's son, Joseph. The town's name was provided by his Mother,
Tempa in
the year 1892. Land parcels were soon offered for sale, and the first
lemon
groves in the area were planted. The Lemon Grove Post office opened in
1893.
The giant lemon also states "the Best Climate on Earth". In the 1940's
the
area lemon groves began to give way to residential development. The
city's
climate and location only seven miles outside of downtown San Diego
attracted many new residents to the area. Incorporated in 1977, the
city of
Lemon Grove is now home to 28,000 residents.
