In the 1950's, Mira Mesa was established as a main residential area for
the
nearby Miramar Naval Air Station. The area of Mira Mesa lies between
the
I-15 and the I-5 across the southern side of the Penasquitos Canyon
Preserve. The area features 8 parks, a teen center and senior center
as
well as an ice arena and aquatic complex.
The main thoroughfare of the area is Mira Mesa Boulevard. This street
provides most of the shopping and goods and services for the
surrounding
neighborhoods. A major commercial center on the I-15 side of the
Boulevard
offers theaters, restaurants, and a wide variety of stores. The
intersection
of Black Mountain Road finds a group of thriving Vietnamese markets and
restaurants. West, towards the I-5 side one finds newer office
buildings
and light industry. This area is primed for business because of its
close
proximity to both the I-805 and I-5 freeways.
Mira Mesa is home to younger families and military that is stationed at
the
Miramar Marine Corps Air Station. The area features a wide variety of
detached single-family housing, condominiums and apartment options.
The
schools in the area are good and the location of the neighborhood
between
two major freeways is attractive to buyers.
