Otay Mesa Real Estate
The city of San Diego annexed the Otay Mesa area in 1957. At that
time, the area was home to fewer than 1,000 people, who were more than likely
outnumbered by the local rabbit population. The name Otay Mesa means
"brushy place" or "wide and level place." The Otay Mesa Port of entry
to Mexico was established in 1985, and the community became established.
The community plan for the Otay Mesa/Nestor area was adopted in 1979 and
further updated in 1997.
The planning area is covered with over 57% residential land uses -
around 17,000 homes.
Another 20% of the area is set aside for transit and other public
facilities, schools and parks. 7% of the land is to be used for
commercial and industrial purposes. A remaining 15% is comprised of agricultural a
vacant land.
The Northern and Southern borders are made up of the Otay and Tijuana
rivers. The Otay Valley Regional Park is a joint effort of the cities
of
San Diego, San Diego County, and the city of
Chula Vista. The park
will
link San Diego Bay to the Otay Lakes area. The area is planned to
provide
educational and recreational opportunities for both residents and
visitors
alike.
Otay Mesa overlooks the Pacific Ocean and offers residents great views
of
the
Coronado Islands and
downtown San Diego. Area residents live close
to
south bay beaches and The Baja California attractions in Mexico. Light
industry and manufacturing development is experiencing rapid growth in
the
area.
The Otay Mesa Port of Entry has converted over to 24-hour operation
which
has made border crossing for both vehicle and pedestrians a much more
convenient experience.
