Rancho Santa Fe Real Estate
Located in North County San Diego, the unincorporated area of Rancho
Santa
Fe is known for its celebrity residents, rural ambiance and large homes
on
spacious lots.
"The Ranch" as it is fondly referred to is an Historic California
Landmark.
The land grant which started it all was made to a man by the name of
Lebrado
Silva in 1831.
Juan Maria Osuna the Mayor of San Diego aquired the land in 1836. Over
time, his family had sold off most of the property, leaving only 200
acres
in their possession.
In 1906 the Santa Fe Railway purchased the land to grow Eucalyptus
trees to
be made into railroad ties. The trees proved to be unacceptable for
railroad usage and residential development then began. In 1917 the
Lake
Hodges dam was completed and bought water to the area. Construction of
the
village of Rancho Santa Fe began in 1922.
The original subdivision of Rancho Santa Fe was called "the Covenant."
Planning and respect for the environment were hallmarks of the project.
The
homes of the covenant were designed by a local architect named Lillian
Rice.
The winding roads of the area were laid out with the intent to keep
drivers
from going too fast through the area in order to appreciate the
surrounding
scenery. All the public buildings in the area were designed in the
Spanish
Colonial Revival style; the Inn, library, civic center and school.
Rice
also designed some private residences to reflect this style- always
paying
close attention to details.
Residents guard the appearance of the Civic Center and work to closely
retain its original styling. 21/2 acres is the minimum lot size on the
covenant to retain the atmosphere of rural living. Homes and estates
in
Rancho Santa Fe are highly desirable to the most discerning of buyers.
The
Inn at Rancho Santa Fe has played host to many celebrities and serves
as the
perfect getaway for visitors that want to relax in luxury in a peaceful
countryside setting.
Polo is a favorite pastime of the area residents as the area is popular
with
equestrians. The area is home to some of the finest horse trainers in
the
U.S. and served as the site for the equestrian events during the 1984
Summer
Olympics. There are bridal paths all throughout the ranch. The
peaceful
inland location of Rancho Santa Fe offers residents all the amenities
of
luxury country living while being close to some of the best beaches in
all
of Southern California.
