Scripps Ranch Real Estate
Newspaper magnate E.W. Scripps came upon the area that is now known as
Scripps Ranch in 1890. The countryside reminded him of Algeria.
Scripps
often suffered from colds and would go to Algeria to avoid them in part
because of the climate that country offered. He purchased an initial
400
acres along with his half-sister, Ellen Browning Scripps. Shortly
thereafter they expanded their holdings to 2,100 acres.
E.W. Scripps built his home which he called Miramar on the ranch in
1898 the
house was named after Archduke Maximillian's castle in Italy. It was
his
home until 1917.
The home featured an adobe wing and was built in the architecture of
Northern Africa.
The Scripps Ranch of today sits just east and above of the I-15 freeway
in
and around a series of hills, mesas and valleys. The tree-lined
streets
feature both middle and upper class homes. A large portion of the open
areas of Scripps Ranch is reserved for recreation and nature preserves.
The area offers excellent schools along with a quiet, small town
atmosphere.
Miramar Lake offers up hiking and fishing opportunities for residents
that
enjoy outdoor activities. Soccer is a popular neighborhood sport.
On the southern edge of the area the Scripps Ranch Business Park is
home to
corporations like Geico Insurance and several service-oriented and
smaller
product companies. Goods and services and shopping are all centrally
located for area residents.
The major retail offerings on Mira Mesa Boulevard are a short distance
away.
Scripps Ranch attracts families and couples that are starting out. The
northern edge of the area is experiencing rapid growth of new home
construction.
